Old antenna to the stars?

Just a scant quarter mile in back of Jane’s house, there’s a place that is labeled “Ruin” on my map, but closer inspection in Google Earth, it shows a giant metal dish. WTF!? So, I take a hike over that direction on my way up the volcano for a hike, wanting to see if it might be connected to Roswell, NM, or what??

As is typical in these intriguing cases, the answer is pretty simple – it is the abandoned ruin of a thermoelectric solar power plant that really never was operational. It’s seriously defunct. Here’s a pic of it when it still had some reflective coating. There’s a massive solar panel farm quite close to it, and so maybe they just figured out that solar panels were a more efficient way to produce power.

From the lip of the caldera, the housing tract where Jane’s house is located is on the far left of this picture, and the giant paella pan is on the right edge. Montaña Roja is in the background.

    What country is this in?

    1. Hi John…we are in Tenerife, which is one of the Canary Islands, just off the west coast of Africa, but actually part of Spain.
