Sleeping in Henry VIII’s bed

…and Anne Boleyn’s…so it’s recorded. Well, we didn’t actually sleep in their BED, but in the room they reportedly slept in, the bed long gone by now. How did this occur? We stayed a night in a friend’s house in Kent, built starting in 1275 and updated and added to through the centuries, and named as a place that Henry and Anne visited and stayed overnight. What happened on that evening or evenings all those years ago is unknown, but it was kind of cool to staying in that room, above the current living room which was a stable originally.

Kent is known as the garden of Britain, which we saw as we took a short walk around the property. Historic old orchards with heirloom apple varieties are still around, comprised of typical single trees, as well as commercial orchards with rows of apple trees grown like grape vines for ease of harvesting.

In addition, there are lots of East Kent Goldings Hops grown here. It’s early in the season, so the plants are just starting their climb up the strings.
