While Nantes was excitingly busy and full of energy, we were ready to move to quieter places after a couple days there. Our 4th floor apartment up narrow concrete spiral stairs was comfortable and offered super views and cooling breezes. It’s a late night place for people on Friday night and we heard it all through the night.
Getting out of Nantes was much more pleasant than getting in. In retrospect it might have been better to cross the Loire at St Nazaire to the more established EV1/6 and entered Nantes that way. Today, we had bike paths from the very start and riding next to the river was great.

Todays ride was 49 miles with a total elevation gain of 700 feet. Since the distance to Bratislava is about 1,500 miles, we’ll try to ride about 250 miles a week to arrive there in about 6 weeks, but we don’t really want to hurry too much. There are always trains to do the final miles.
Food is a big part of our days. We pack food for the day, often cooking some hard-boiled eggs as a snack during the day, and buying some fruit and carrots to munch, as well as cheese and crackers and some salty things like olives. Dinner varies depending on where we are but we always are hungry and a bottle of wine and some beer are called for at the end of the day!
