Little did we know that our destination of Chalon-sur-Saône today would be hosting a Festival of Theatre the weekend (day) of our visit! Leaving the quiet of the Camping du Lac at Palinges with nothing around it, we traveled about 58 miles to Chalon-sur-Saône where thousands of people milled in the streets and 250 exhibition/performances happened somewhat randomly as one wandered the streets. The event was cancelled the last two years due to Covid but it’s back!
We have now left the Loire river and are now on the Saône. On the way along the Loire, it seems like we’ve been sometimes on river and sometimes on adjoining canals, which I want to map some day. For now I can only say that we’ve passed the Loire for this trip anyway! It was amazing
Today, we encountered a family traveling by horse drawn carriage, a bush full of blackberries (YUM!) and a grand extended family of cats that threatened to keep Chris in France forever. It was all I could do to drag her away.

For lunch we carved up a really nice heirloom tomato liberally sprinkled with salt, some Pink Lady apple, some Comte cheese and the vestiges of blue cheese I bought the previous day. Why you can buy tasty ripe heirloom tomatoes in France for $2/lb at the supermarket is a question I will leave for later.

This morning Chris said goodbye to Chapeau, and he seemed transiently interested. You know how cats are!
