These last couple days we’ve covered about 100 miles. Today is our last day of camping! We ended the day with 50 miles remaining to Vienna, where we will stay for 3 nights in an apartment as a period of rain thankfully arrives to this parched land. And then one more day to cycle to Martins house in Bratislava. It’s almost over. This chapter, anyway. We’ve been riding a ribbon of smooth pavement and we’ve mostly hugged the river. There is a path on both sides of the Danube now, making us wonder which side of the river we should be on.
A couple days ago we met and talked to our first American on this trip. The next day we met two. And then yesterday we saw dozens and dozens, all on some form of organized tours. We pass dozens of cycle tourists. River cruise boats ply the Danube. We saw probably 20 yesterday. The world comes to the Danube.

Both campsites had a castle in view from our tent.

The manager of the campsite in Grein was weird and aggressive but we got on our site and enjoyed our evening. Most evenings we buy a bag of pre-washed salad greens, mix with carrots and tomatoes and something else that we find that looks good. We both like eating the green stuff and we’ve both lost about 15 excess pounds along the way.

Our last 10 miles into Krems was lined with orchards of all kinds of things interspersed. Apples, grapes, and apricots. Really lovely to bike through.
