On the last day of 2022, we celebrated an amazing year of adventure and travel into the night. We left home on January 2 and have lived out of suitcases, bike panniers, tents and the generosity of friends and family. We rang in 2023 with hopes for another amazing year. The New Year arrives first in Sydney and then an hour later in Brisbane, and then circles around the globe across the international date line and 23 time zones. For the first time, I experienced the start of the celebration.
The day started pretty relaxed with a 3-mile stroll on a sand spit that emerges at low tide off Wellington Point, with a view of Brisbane city and docks across the water. It’s not quite Mont St Michel, but the crowds were less and we enjoyed the stroll.

Our evening plan was to get some fish and chips takeout at Manly Beach, drink some champagne and watch the movie Mama Mia! in the park at an outdoor theatre. Good fun!

I had never seen the movie before and it’s just easy breezy and super enjoyable. Great music!
Andrew cranked up more Abba as we returned home for the next chapter of the party, that lasted until about 1:30AM. 2023 had started, at least in Australia.

Chris and I collapsed in bed, full of good cheer and hopes that the new year would be as good as the last, which we both remarked was one of the best of our lives. No small tribute to the year past.
