We left Auckland a couple days ago, which was good since Auckland experienced very heavy rain and flooding last night. We were snug in our B&B in Paeroa, listening to the pounding rain on the roof while we slept the first night and as we lazed around basically all the following day. It ended up raining something like 3 inches the day we stayed in Paeroa, and triple that in Auckland.
Our second evening in Paeroa we got invited to Grant’s mother’s house for dinner, about 1.5 miles from our B&B. It was a fun evening, and we bid the Rennie’s goodbye another time.

That night, the rain poured again, pounding on the roof at our B&B, but ending in the early morning with an almost eerie calm.
We took off on our 38 mile ride to Matamata, the majority of it on bike path and flat. We passed though Te Aroha, noting the flooded fields at the sides, but under generally dry conditions with some showers. Our rain gear was great and this was the first test. The afternoon we connected again with the Rennie’s on their 2nd to last day of riding, and then the skies opened up to pour on us. Rain gear still was good! Glad that we invested in good rain gear for this trip.

We came into Matamata and stopped by the visitor center that is styled like a hobbit house.

We then headed to our room which is over a pub. Time to dry clothes and get clean ones on. The camping line came in handy.
