Pamplona is most famous for the Running of the Bulls, a spectacle that ends badly for the bulls and sometimes even for some of the hundreds of people who run with them.
It’s also a major religious site along the Camino de Santiago, where there are no fewer than 9 churches and the cathedral, which is amazing. The cathedral is sprawling with all its exhibits and the museum and we spent a couple hours in there, partly being lost but partly just wandering around seeing cool stuff.
Our apartment is right on and overlooks la Plaza del Castillo, one of the must-visit places in Pamplona. It’s a fancy place that we chose mostly for its air conditioning since Europe is in a heat wave and temperatures are 100F or more. The view is pretty darn nice too. We stayed here a couple nights.
The twisting medieval streets and colorful buildings are enchanting. We took lots of pictures of them as well.
An impromptu lunch of tortilla espagnola brought smiles to our faces, delight to our taste buds and probably a bit of chub to our waists, but it was amazing! And 2 big slices, a beer and a wine were less than $10. This is living!
We ate dinner at home, from groceries purchased at the Central Mercado. And went to bed as early as we could to wake up early the next morning.
