Chris and I had been to Prague with her nephew Andrew and his girlfriend Bella a couple years before, so I didn’t really feel the need to do another extensive tour. My nephew Ben recommended I go see the Dancing House, a modernist building designed by the Croatian-Czech architect Vlado Milunić in cooperation with Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry on a vacant riverfront plot, and so that’s what I did.

It was super cool, and I had a coffee and raspberry cream pie at the top overlooking Prague and enjoyed it very much.

It was a hot day, near 90°F, so I toddled back home and rested most of the day, finishing a book I had started sometime ago. Also, the apartment I rented had a washing machine, so I washed basically all of my minimal clothes in an official machine for the first time since I arrived. Anyone who’s used a European washing machine knows that gave me a lot of time to read and rest. About 5 PM, I went to a restaurant on the same block as my apartment and had an amazing roasted duck dish that had great reviews.

There was also a Georgian bakery on the other corner, but I didn’t quite have enough appetite to make a stop there while I was staying in the apartment. Everything anyone could possibly want in one block!

The next day I headed north, starting my trip towards Berlin, planning to arrive on the 15th to meet with my friend Jay from Boulder.

I followed the Vltava river out of Prague, and about 40 miles up the Vltava joins the Elbe River (known as the Labe river here) and so I followed the Elbe for 30 miles until I reached the town I had planned to stay in. I had some navigation issues along the way, and so I had to backtrack a bit a couple times after going the wrong way.
I had seen a forecast for severe thunder showers before I left that morning, and my memory was that they would be arriving around 5 to 6 PM. And they did! The ground winds became stronger and I had spitting rain on me with lightning in the background.

I found that the campground I had originally decided to stay at was permanently closed and so I was going to the next one when the rain increased just as I was passing a hotel! So, wise man that I am, I parked my bike and went inside to see if they had a room just as the sky opened up and the rain poured down from the heavens. So that is where I am staying tonight. ☺️
