Dramatic Møns Klint

While I was talking to the French couple in the campground, the lady showed me a loop close to our path to see something called Møns Klint, a dramatic seaside cliff. And taking one look at the photo, I was hooked! And so I included the loop into today’s ride, and stayed in a campground near the cliff.

The ride was beautiful getting to the campsite. A lot of it was right next to the sea, with seemingly endless beaches with no one really on them.

The trail is flat, and well-maintained. I think a lot of the trees in this forest are beech trees. The blue of the sea is magnetic, and I enjoyed stopping from time to time just to gaze out at it. While my impression is that the trail was flat, I still climbed about 1800 feet during the day of almost 60 miles.

Getting to the campsite, it’s kind of a zoo! I’m lucky that I am on a bicycle, because every other type of spot is fully taken. There are tons of kids playing mini golf and splashing in the pool, and yet it’s pretty quiet at night once the crying and screaming of the children (and the begging of parents) subsides. 😉

The campground was pretty expensive at 275 Danish kroner, which is about $40, especially if you don’t play mini golf! However, it has pretty much everything, including a heated closet to hang your clothes so they can dry!

Forced air drying closet, worked great!

The next day, I took off for Møns Klint. Not surprisingly, there’s a bikes-only trail that runs in the forest, parallel to the road. Once I got there, I first hiked to the top to get a sense of the look-down, and then took the almost 500 steps to the bottom.

Almost to the beach!

The beach is the same kind of aggregate as the cliff, not surprisingly

After enjoying that experience, I rode back through Stege on my continuation towards Copenhagen.

I stopped in Stege for coffee and cake! Things are fairly expensive in Denmark. This cake plus an excellant coffee was about $12.50.

From a mileage perspective today was a short day at about 35 miles with 1400 feet of climbing.

The campsite furthest to the right was the cliff campsite

Tomorrow it’s only about 42 miles. And then, I’ll be in Copenhagen the following day. At the end of a trip, the time goes so quickly.

Your photo of Mons Klint from the top is worthy of framing. Thank you.

  2. You say a short day cycling but you gotta add the climbing stairs in with todays exercise. So glad you didnt miss out on this place. Wendy

  4. When you stop for a meal, or to hike to the top of cliff, do you secure your bike somehow? And what about when it’s loaded with all your gear? Maybe theft isn’t a consideration on this journey? Joëlle

    1. I have used my lock very little this trip. When I was hiking to the top of Mons Klint and all the way to the bottom beach, I just leaned my bike against something and left it as is, with all my gear. Theft does not seem to be a big issue here.

  5. What an amazing place and the quality of the photograph!!

    1. This is Chris BTW.
