Leaving Tenerife for Liverpool, and scattering Beryl’s ashes

All good things must come to an end, I have been told, and so we sadly left the warmth and adventures of Tenerife to go to Liverpool. We closed up Jane’s place (THANK YOU JANE!) and prepared it for the next visitors and then we all three headed to the airport. Tenerife faded to a speck outside the plane window and then was gone (for now 🙂 ). Not that Liverpool is so bad, but our goals there included scattering the ashes of Chris’ mum Beryl, who died in March 2021, and also arranging for the scattering of ashes of Chris’ dad Austin who died in 2020. Some sad business, but a final tribute to those who have passed.

This was the first trip in a long time that we didn’t have to do any COVID-19 stuff to travel!! No departure or arrival tests, no vaccination forms, no passenger locator forms, no fears of being delayed along the way! AMAZING! Yes, we did have to wear masks on the plane, but that was it. Arriving in England, it was cool and green, but mostly sunny. We took Helen, Andrew and Auntie Audrey out for lunch on Saturday to celebrate Helen and Andrew’s birthdays. The next day, we headed to the Lake District near Levens to pour Beryl’s ashes into the River Kent, near a bridge she and her friends walked over many times on various happy holidays; her wish fulfilled. But, first we had lunch and a little walk in the country, admiring the daffodils and lovely village views.

Arriving to the bridge, we found a spot just below with nicely flowing water to carry her down the stream. Helen, Chris and Andrew took turns pouring her ashes into the water and we watched them flow down the river towards the Irish Sea. Rest in Peace, Beryl! See you on the other side!

We’ll be in Liverpool for about 12 days, taking care of Ollie the cat at Helen’s place and seeing friends before heading down to Little Coxswell near the Cotswolds.
