Mornings in Tenerife started with coffee and tea, surrounded by maps and books of new places to explore. Mornings in Liverpool begin with the same beverages, but a bit later. We’ve probably been up to midnight at least, eating and drinking more than our fill the previous night, catching up with friends for hours. Great fun and amusement! In the morning, we’re nursing hangovers and planning the next visits or shopping for dinner with friends. During the day, we sometimes squeeze in a walk in the Childwall Woods just a block from our Helen’s house, but our hiking adventures are on hold for a bit. It’s decidedly Spring in Liverpool, with trees bursting with blossoms and flowers seemingly everywhere. The weather is “variable” which means that you can experience all the seasons several times an hour, but generally omitting summer.

A few days after we arrive, Helen leaves for about a week to do a river cruise with Auntie Audrey, starting in Amsterdam, visiting the tulip fields and then stopping a few places in Belgium. Bon Voyage – Chris drops them at the Liverpool Airport.

Chris has a lot of friends in Liverpool, so we catch up with as many as we can given our short visit. Viv and Mark, David and Giulio, Wendy and Mike, Toni and Gary, Jane and Si, Pete, Pauline, Jane Nagus and others! We also get to spend some quality time with Andrew, our nephew. He’s 21 now so all grown up!

Ollie the Cat is …well…a cat, and so he spends his time either sleeping, asking for food, or sitting on the dining room table. He basically has no shame so he’s unabashed about investigating that smoked salmon on someone’s plate or claiming his right to the kitchen counter. But he’s also sweet, particularly when he’s half or completely asleep. 🙂 We also spend some time with Glenn the rabbit and other random cats that Chris spots on our walks.

Yesterday, we took a day trip to Chester to visit with Jane and Si, who met us halfway from their place in Nantwich. Chester is a lovely city that is popular with tourists, deservedly so. Tons of shops and pubs and beautiful buildings. Worth a visit for sure. The Grand National was running that day, and so ladies (and men to a lesser extent) were dressed up on the train to strut their stuff at the racecourse. Thanks to Si for picking such great pubs (the Botanist and Telford’s Warehouse) and the Indian food restaurant (Barton Rouge). Best Indian food any of us have ever eaten!
