L’île de Batz for the day

About a mile and a half from Roscoff is the small island of Batz, home to about 500 residents. The island is mostly car free, and it’s small enough that you can get anywhere easily by bike or even by foot. In spite of being open for tourists, it retains an authentic feel.

We took the ferry from Roscoff, walking down a long elevated pier to get to the boat since the tide was out. When we returned, the ferry landing was much closer to shore as the tide was back in by the time we returned.

The island is small, less than 2 miles in its longest dimension. We rode most of the roads and visited the amazing botanical garden and tried to get into the lighthouse and museum, which opens after July 1. The botanical garden Georges Delaselle is a historic botanical garden that has a long history and is certainly worth visiting. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jardin_Georges_Delaselle

Dinner tonight was fabulous! Oysters, onion soup made with a special local onion, seafood soup, sea bass with mashed potatoes and parsley aioli (Chris) and monkfish wrapped in bacon with sautéed vegetables. (Jacques)

And then we took a last walk past the church and returned to our hotel. Lovely evening.

Keep posting pictures of the food, it looks so incredible and looks like you are really savoring life there!

    1. Sorry, no food pics today but I guarantee you’ll see some amazing food tomorrow!

  2. You’ve found another island I don’t know :-). I immediately went to my Brittany/Bretagne Insight Guide and la voila! Ile de Batz, plus a mention of Roscoff. The food photos made my mouth water. Enjoyed the pics of the botanical garden–had to smile since I have echium (the Canary Is. plant) in my yard here in coastal California. Don’t know your route, but any chance you’ll be including Ile d”Yeu in your travels?

  3. Living FABULOUSLY!!
