Getting out of St Malo was the hardest part of the day! The streets are all twisty-turny and so it was hard to get pointed the right direction. But after we got going, it was pretty easy going. Today’s ride was about 42 miles with about 850 ft of climbing that was all in the beginning. The last 25 miles were basically flat!
We rode about 15 miles to Cancale, a town famous for oysters for centuries. There are vendors there from 8 producers to allow you to buy plates of their oysters, but it was still morning so we had coffee and an amazing galette in one of the many restaurants along the quai.
After Cancale, our climb out of town was one of our last for the day…we were on the coast with mostly flat bikeways the rest of the day. With a tailwind for a good deal of it. ☺️
Given the wind, it was not surprising that there were many old windmills along the coast. Many have been converted to living or commercial space but some are still turning. There are also a number of parks where people ride what looks like windsurfers but they have wheels and are in dry land. They go pretty fast!
