Going to Sancerre!

Anyone who drinks white wine knows Sancerre, one of the notable wines of the world. The route we are on passes right by the village of Sancerre, and this seems like a perfect place to hunker down for a couple days/nights until the heat dies down.

It’s going to be 101 degrees today (and tomorrow) but the evening cools down and so we can explore the walled village of Sancerre tomorrow in the cooler morning hours. And drink some of that wine….

Both Chris and I already have some heat rash, and so we need to keep sun/heat exposure to a minimum these next couple days. The 3rd day the forecast calls for rain and much cooler temperatures so we should get some relief. Today was the hottest temperatures ever forecast for England too.

Todays ride: 30 miles from Briare to Ménétréol-sous-Sancerre. The jog in the path is around the nuclear power station.

Just along the route today is someone’s garden with dozens of ducks, ducklings and geese, with identifying signs and conservation status, obviously made by hand. An older lady is putting out food when we arrive…probably her project and passion.

Big fields of sunflowers along the way

And our apartment is great. First of all, it’s cool, meaning temperature cool. There’s no air conditioning but the shutters have been closed and it’s probably 25 degrees cooler inside than outside. The apartment is nice. The staircase is probably not suitable for old people or people who are not absolutely sure footed, but for us it’s great.

The apartment is almost under the viaduct, in an alley on the left

Tomorrow we’ll explore Sancerre!
