To be fair, it was really a scant half day in Sancerre, since the temperature was forecast to be 101°. We really wanted to get back to our apartment shortly after noon, and lock ourselves into the cool shaded ground floor and wait out the worst of the heat. So we gave Sancerre a couple hours, which was probably enough since it’s quite small and the streets are not remarkable. The real star of Sancerre, rightly so, are the vineyards which completely surround the hilltop town.
We had coffee in the square, wrote some cards, and circumnavigated the town on bike.

We planned a nice dinner…with a view on the Loire. Chris picked the place! And we enjoyed a bottle of Sancerre wine, of course.

Riding home from dinner on the canal path, tinges of smoke from a fire hundreds of miles away colored the air, but thankfully rain is coming tonight.
