Towards Basel: Day 1

Our next major stop is Basel, Switzerland where we will stay for a couple nights. Leaving Besançon, we have about 115 miles to ride to Basel. Leaving Besançon, we had a nice view of the eastern ramparts of the citadel. The ride was predictably beautiful!

I found a campsite about half-way, which ended up being a very nice place! Lacking the energy to choose a restaurant, we ate dinner from the leftovers in our various food bags and bought a pretty nice bottle of rosé wine from the camp host. It was nice to just relax and then go to bed early.

Mandeure: Our stop between Besançon and Basel. Today was 59 miles.

The landscape changed dramatically today compared to the last weeks, with high limestone cliffs covered by dense woods appearing on the side of the river. We are cycling towards the Alps and so we are expecting some more hills. The route today continued tracing along canals and rivers, and so it was easy cycling while viewing the high cliffs above the river. We had a fairly consistent tail wind and that helped us speed along.
