Constance or Konstanz?

On our way into Constance, we saw dozens if not hundreds of cycle tourists streaming past us going away from Constance, obviously having spent a long weekend in Constance campgrounds? We were relieved… there might be some space for us. It was the last day of a holiday weekend so we had reason to be hopeful.

It was a beautiful ride in Constance, with the lake on our left side as we pedaled into the city. On the map above, you can see that we diverted from the EV6 to visit Constance. We took the lower route to Constance and then reconnected to the EV6 after coming along the north side of the lake. We cycled 41 miles.

A kind person left figs on the side of the path. Lovely!!

Getting into the town was easy. One measure of a town for us is how easy it is for cyclists to enter a congested town and still feel that they have their own space!

We had planned to camp near Constance , and the nearest campground was out on a point. We proceeded out there and then found that the check-in started at 3 PM and we arrived at 12:15. So we wound our way back into town and had a really nice lunch, some wine/beer, and some coffee before heading to a campsite more on our route towards the EV6.

The second campground had everything! A bar, showers, a washing machine, a dryer, paddle boards, canoes, and everything else for rent! It also had pretty much everyone in the entire world staying there. And so despite it having a lovely location and being a theoretically great place to spend a couple days on the lake, we decided to stay just one day.

We bought a bottle of wine and enjoyed it at the side of the lake. We could see the Alps across the lake.

The sunset was pretty amazing too!
