If you look carefully at the map below, you will see a thin grey line squiggling around which is the border between Switzerland and Germany. We crossed between the two countries several times today, not always knowing exactly which country we were in since the border crossings are not always obvious.

We decided yesterday we wanted to visit Constance (or Konstanz) which is a popular tourist destination on the giant lake of the same name. It was too far to make easily in one day so we stopped about 15 miles before Constance in a small campground. It being Sunday, there were no grocery stores open (nor any other stores), but there was one restaurant nearby that we decided to have dinner at. Dinner was great, if expensive.

One of the hardest things was just deciphering the menu from German, but it is amazing what Google translate will do for you. We never had when we were young!
We left our campground and stopped shortly thereafter to pick some apples.

The day had a lot of great sights! We passed the Rhine Falls, the most powerful waterfall in Europe, as well as passed through the amazing town of Stein am Rhine.

Half a dozen teenage boys jumped off a pretty high bridge into the Rhine river below in front of us and a number of bystanders… It probably wasn’t that dangerous but it seem thrilling to everyone concerned. It’s August 1 tomorrow, which is a Swiss National holiday, with the typical fireworks postponed due to the dry conditions. The campgrounds, beaches and restaurants are PACKED! While I bemoaned in yesterday’s post about Switzerland not being pristine, I need to say that it still is! Just maybe not in the Basel. Switzerland manages to be neat and clean, but keep its charm. It’s just delightful.
