The weekend before we took off for Europe (flying through London to Paris, where we then will catch a train to Morlaix in Brittany), we attended the wedding of our friends Jennifer and John in Steamboat Springs.

We had a great time, enjoying the cool air of the mountains, or at least cooler than the torrid temperatures affecting the southern states and much of Europe. The wedding was lovely, set on a ranch just west of town.

We’ve been preparing to leave for a while now, not only packing bikes but also assembling final bits of stuff that we need and counting pills to make sure we have all our meds/supplements for the trip.
It’s dawning on us that we will be returning to our house when we return from this trip. It feels almost weird to think that we’ll actually move back into our own house when we return in October, for the first time in 21 months. We’ve stayed in so many places during this time, in many people’s houses and slept in so many beds that it will be special to sleep in our own bed, cook in our own kitchen, and live on our own street.
This morning, we moved out of Tom and Susan‘s lovely house, which was a great place to stay during the 7 weeks since our return from Cambodia. They are very gracious hosts and it’s been easy and fun to stay there. We shared a lot of nice meals and had lively conversations. Seemed almost a shame to leave.
And leaving is the same routine…wash sheets and towels, clean the bathroom, vacuum, pack all our stuff, and then stash what we are not taking on this trip at our house, where we will return in 82 days.

The duffel bag with camping/bike gear and carry-on bags got packed, and the bike boxes were finally taped up. We’re ready to hit the road again. Even Rosie the Rabbit is ready, taking over Bennie the Bunny’s place. She seems excited and so are we.
